Several compounds share the GHRH framework, including sermorelin, the shorter 1-29 fragment, and other analogs built on the full 1-44 chain. Naming follows a common convention: a stem that identifies the peptide plus a suffix marking analog status. Reports may describe tesamorelin by its sequence fragment, as a GHRH(1-44) analog, or by its amino-terminal modification. Indexing the compound therefore requires searching all of these forms, since some older literature predates the current international nonproprietary name.
Tesamorelin is a synthetic peptide built from 44 amino acids and classified with the growth hormone–releasing hormone family. Its sequence corresponds to the human GHRH(1-44) backbone, carrying one structural change at the amino terminus. That change is a trans-3-hexenoyl group placed where the natural peptide would have an unmodified end. The modification is the feature that separates the compound from the endogenous hormone in name, in stability, and in how it is handled in the laboratory.

Clinical investigation has focused on HIV-associated lipodystrophy, a condition in which antiretroviral therapy contributes to abnormal fat distribution. Excess visceral adipose tissue accumulates in the abdomen while peripheral fat may be lost. Tesamorelin was evaluated for reducing this visceral fat depot, with trials measuring changes in abdominal fat by imaging rather than by body weight alone. The rationale rests on the known lipolytic effects of growth hormone. Effects on visceral fat are documented, while long-term outcomes regarding cardiovascular risk remain less clearly established.
Tesamorelin is a synthetic peptide analog of growth hormone-releasing hormone, composed of 44 amino acids. It was designed to retain the biological activity of the native hormone while resisting rapid enzymatic degradation. The compound is classified as a growth hormone secretagogue and belongs to the broader family of hypothalamic releasing factors. In research and clinical settings, it is studied for its ability to stimulate pituitary growth hormone release. Its structure includes a modification at the N-terminus that contributes to an extended half-life relative to native growth hormone-releasing hormone.
The size of the units which count effectively in international politics grows steadily larger. There is no longer room in Europe today for those three or four important and strong countries whose more or less equal rivalries enabled Great Britain in the past to secure herself through the policy of the balance of power. Much nonsense has been talked in recent years about the balance of power. But the confusion of thought resulting from the attempt to brand it as a morally reprehensive policy has been less serious than the confusion resulting from the assumption that it is a policy which can be applied at all times and in all circumstances. The principal military reason why … is that the balance of power in Europe has hopelessly broken down... The possibility of restoring the balance did not exist after 1919; and British policy, based on a false premise, ended in disaster. In 1941, Winston Churchill was criticized by his rival, Adolf Hitler, for his adherence to the balance of power:
=== Affinity-based Screening === Screening is used to find the apparent affinities of heterologous proteins displayed on the bacterial cell surface for target proteins. This method is usually combined with FACS, and the addition of a non-fluorescent target protein competitor is beneficial to obtaining more accurate binding affinities. Adding a competitor reduces the chance of target proteins rebinding, which would render the binding affinity less accurate.
=== Plastics production === Several widely used polymers contain acrylonitrile as a monomer and therefore incorporate nitrile groups. Pure polyacrylonitrile (PAN) is difficult to process; consequently, during its production, 85 to 99% acrylonitrile is almost always copolymerized with small amounts of other monomers. Copolymers containing 35 to 85% acrylonitrile, together with other monomers such as vinyl acetate and methyl methacrylate, are also employed. Nitrile polymers are among the most important fully synthetic materials for textile fibers, alongside polyesters and polyamidess. These fibers, known as acrylic fibers, are produced on the scale of several million tons per year. In 2000, global production was approximately 2.7 million tons. Acrylic fibers are used in garments (such as socks and sweaters), blankets, carpets, and knitting yarn, among other applications. PAN is also the principal precursor for the production of carbon fiber, which is used as an exceptionally lightweight yet strong material in automotive and aircraft construction. Global production of the monomer acrylonitrile was approximately 3.2 million tons in 1988. Acrylonitrile butadiene rubbers are known as nitrile rubbers and exhibit advantageous properties such as high tensile strength, high abrasion resistance, and resistance to hydrocarbons (oils and fuels). They are therefore used for sealing rings and for oil and fuel hoses.
=== Freeze drying === Originally introduced in 1813 by William Hyde Wollaston to the Royal Society in London, it was not until the late 80's the freeze-drying industry discovered the allurement and longevity of freeze-dried flowers. Freeze-dried flowers are fresh flowers that have been specially dried to preserve their natural shape and color. Freeze drying is accomplished by a process called sublimation. It requires a special freeze-drying machine. It involves first freezing the flowers at 100K for at least 12 hours. A vacuum pump slowly pulls the moisture out of the flowers as a vapor in one chamber, and then the vapor condenses as ice in another chamber. Because of this process, the shape and natural color of the flower is maintained. It has been found that certain flowers retain their color well despite the fact they have been freeze-dried. Apparently, such flowers retain their color due to the tissue composition of the petals, leaves, and the like. Carnations, African violets, roses, asparagus and other ferns, and baby's breath exhibit good color retention notwithstanding the dehydration during the freeze-drying process. Those floral pieces which either dull or fade from dehydration may be given color by utilization of a florist's spray tint. This spray coloring restores the lost color which, in the sealed environment of the glass container of the final product, retains its given color along with the natural color of the other pieces.

=== Overexpression in cancers === CUX1 is overexpressed in many cancers. The comprehensive molecular characterization of human colon and rectal cancer performed by The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) ranked CUX1 as the fifth gene on a scale showing a correlation between tumour aggressiveness and gene expression/somatic copy number alterations. TCGA and REMBRANDT data also show shorter survival of glioblastoma patients with high CUX1 mRNA expression (reviewed). In smaller scale studies, immunohistochemical analyses on breast, pancreas and glioblastoma cancers reveal that CUX1 expression inversely correlates with relapse-free and overall survival. An alternative CUX1 transcript that is initiated within intron 20 and codes for a p75 isoform is expressed specifically in the testis and thymus. This transcript was found to be aberrantly expressed in many breast tumour cells lines and breast tumours. Transgenic mice expressing this transcript in mammary epithelial cells were shown to develop mammary tumours with metastasis to the lung.
== History == Somapacitan was evaluated in a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial (NCT02229851) in 300 participants with growth hormone deficiency who had never received growth hormone treatment or had stopped treatment with other growth hormone formulations at least three months before the study. Participants were randomly assigned to receive injections of weekly somapacitan, weekly placebo (inactive treatment), or daily somatropin, an FDA-approved growth hormone. The effectiveness of somapacitan was determined by the percentage change of truncal fat, the fat that is accumulated in the trunk or central area of the body that is regulated by growth hormone and can be associated with serious medical issues. The trial was conducted at 92 sites in 16 countries: the United States, Australia, Germany, India, Japan, Latvia, Lithuania, Malaysia, Poland, Romania, Russian Fed, South Africa, Sweden, Turkey, Ukraine and the United Kingdom. Adult participants were assigned at random to weekly Sogroya or placebo injections for 34 weeks. Neither the participants nor the investigators knew which treatment was given until the end of the trial. One additional group of participants with GHD received daily injections of somatotropin (an approved treatment for GHD). At the end of the 34-week treatment period, truncal fat decreased by 1.06%, on average, among participants taking weekly somapacitan while it increased among participants taking the placebo by 0.47%. In the daily somatropin group, truncal fat decreased by 2.23%.
=== Termination of Cuban medical mission === On 13 February, the Guatemalan health ministry announced it would begin a "phased withdrawal of the Cuban Medical Brigade". The decision was linked to pressure from the U.S., which has called the Cuban medical mission "forced labor". Income earned by doctors serving in foreign countries is an important source of revenue for the Cuban government. In February, Honduras announced that it was ending the Cuban medical mission. The Bahamas, Antigua and Barbuda, and Grenada have also said they would reduce use of Cuban healthcare workers. U.S. diplomat Mike Hammer pressured the government of Calabria to end their reliance on Cuban medical staff. President of Calabria Roberto Occhiuto said that Cuban doctors were necessary "to keep hospitals and emergency rooms open" in the region, but that he would consider alternatives to hiring more Cuban doctors. Occhiuto denied the U.S. argument that the program was human trafficking.
Gorlin's sign is a medical term that indicates the ability in humans to touch the tip of the nose with the tongue. Approximately ten percent of the general population can perform this act, but fifty percent of people with Ehlers–Danlos syndrome (an inherited connective tissue disorder) have the ability. The sign is named after pathologist Robert J. Gorlin, who described it in twentieth century medical literature. Gorlin's sign should not be confused with Gorlin syndrome, a serious inherited medical condition also named after the same pathologist.
=== Air === Under standard atmospheric conditions (25 °C and pressure of 1 bar), the dynamic viscosity of air is 18.5 μPa·s, roughly 50 times smaller than the viscosity of water at the same temperature. Except at very high pressure, the viscosity of air depends mostly on the temperature. Among the many possible approximate formulas for the temperature dependence (see Temperature dependence of viscosity), one is:

No. It is a peptide that acts upstream of growth hormone release, while growth hormone is the hormone itself. The two differ in size, in receptor, and in how the body clears them.
It blocks the amino-terminal degradation step that limits native GHRH. The addition extends how long the peptide survives in plasma without removing its ability to activate the receptor.
The chain contains 44 amino acid residues. It matches the human GHRH(1-44) sequence apart from the amino-terminal modification.
