Tesamorelin is a synthetic peptide analog of growth hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH). Its sequence corresponds to the 44-amino-acid form of human GHRH with a trans-3-hexenoyl group attached to the N-terminal tyrosine. This modification slows enzymatic cleavage and extends the peptide's activity relative to the native hormone. The compound is produced by solid-phase peptide synthesis and supplied as a lyophilized powder. Researchers classify it as a GHRH receptor agonist. Its structure places it in the same family as other growth hormone secretagogues that act on the pituitary.
Binding of tesamorelin to GHRH receptors on pituitary somatotroph cells triggers cyclic AMP signaling and the release of growth hormone into circulation. Because the peptide acts upstream of the growth hormone axis, its effects are partly mediated by hepatic insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) production. The pulsatile character of endogenous growth hormone secretion is preserved rather than replaced. Whether amplified signaling produces effects beyond those of native GHRH remains an area of ongoing investigation.
A documented effect of tesamorelin is a reduction in visceral adipose tissue in some study populations. Researchers have reported decreases in trunk fat measured by computed tomography alongside changes in lipid markers. The mechanism is thought to involve growth hormone-mediated lipolysis, though the precise contribution of direct versus indirect pathways is not fully resolved. Studies have generally examined defined groups over finite periods, so long-term outcomes are less well characterized. Findings have not been uniform across all trials.

Studies of the compound rely on imaging and laboratory endpoints rather than on symptoms alone. Visceral adipose tissue is usually quantified by computed tomography or magnetic resonance imaging at the level of the abdomen, with waist circumference serving as a cheaper but less specific proxy. Blood work tracks insulin-like growth factor 1, fasting glucose, glycated hemoglobin, and lipid fractions. In the pivotal trials the imaging endpoint fell by roughly fifteen to twenty percent over six months, subcutaneous fat changed little, and the visceral fat returned toward baseline after treatment stopped, a pattern that shapes how clinicians discuss durability.
Whether the drug improves hard clinical outcomes is not settled. No completed trial has shown a reduction in heart attacks or strokes among treated patients, although a dedicated cardiovascular outcomes study has been discussed in the literature. Investigators have also examined hepatic fat in people with HIV and fatty liver disease, cognitive measures in small cohorts, and changes in bone density. Regulatory labeling emphasizes monitoring of insulin-like growth factor 1 because supraphysiologic levels raise questions about tissue growth, and the clinical significance of that signal remains an open question rather than a demonstrated harm.
Tesamorelin is a synthetic peptide analog of growth hormone-releasing hormone, composed of 44 amino acids. It was designed to retain the biological activity of the native hormone while resisting rapid enzymatic degradation. The compound is classified as a growth hormone secretagogue and belongs to the broader family of hypothalamic releasing factors. In research and clinical settings, it is studied for its ability to stimulate pituitary growth hormone release. Its structure includes a modification at the N-terminus that contributes to an extended half-life relative to native growth hormone-releasing hormone.
Tesamorelin binds to growth hormone-releasing hormone receptors on the surface of pituitary somatotroph cells. This binding activates adenylate cyclase, raising intracellular cyclic AMP levels and triggering the release of growth hormone into circulation. The elevated growth hormone then stimulates hepatic production of insulin-like growth factor 1. Because the effect is mediated through the endogenous axis, secretion remains subject to feedback regulation. This distinguishes it from direct growth hormone administration, which bypasses pituitary control entirely.
Clinical investigation has focused on HIV-associated lipodystrophy, a condition in which antiretroviral therapy contributes to abnormal fat distribution. Excess visceral adipose tissue accumulates in the abdomen while peripheral fat may be lost. Tesamorelin was evaluated for reducing this visceral fat depot, with trials measuring changes in abdominal fat by imaging rather than by body weight alone. The rationale rests on the known lipolytic effects of growth hormone. Effects on visceral fat are documented, while long-term outcomes regarding cardiovascular risk remain less clearly established.
1905: American geneticist Nettie Stevens discovered sex chromosomes. 1906: Following the San Francisco earthquake, American botanist and curator Alice Eastwood rescued almost 1500 rare plant specimens from the burning California Academy of Sciences building. Her curation system of keeping type specimens separate from other collections – unconventional at the time – allowed her to quickly find and retrieve the specimens. 1906: Russian chemist Irma Goldberg published a paper on two newly discovered chemical reactions involving the presence of copper and the creation of a nitrogen-carbon bond to an aromatic halide. These reactions were subsequently named the Goldberg reaction and the Jourdan-Ullman-Goldberg reaction. 1906: English physicist, mathematician and engineer Hertha Ayrton became the first female recipient of the Hughes Medal from the Royal Society of London. She received the award for her experimental research on electric arcs and sand ripples. 1906: After her death, English lepidopterist Emma Hutchinson's collection of 20,000 butterflies and moths was donated to the London Natural History Museum. She had published little during her lifetime, and was barred from joining local scientific societies due to her gender, but was honoured for her work when a variant form of the comma butterfly was named hutchinsoni. 1907: Swedish-Norwegian physicist and nutritionist Signe Schmidt-Nielsen became one of the first women in Sweden to receive a doctoral degree. She was also the first woman to become a member of the Royal Norwegian Society of Sciences and Letters.
In 2003 the Americana Music Awards awarded Parsons with the President's Award, which was accepted by his daughter. The 2003 film Grand Theft Parsons stars Johnny Knoxville as Phil Kaufman and chronicles a farcical version of the theft of Parsons' corpse. In 2006, Gandulf Hennig released the documentary Gram Parsons: Fallen Angel. In 2004, Parsons' daughter Polly produced two tribute concerts titled "Return to Sin City: A Tribute to Gram Parsons". Artists included Keith Richards, James Burton, Lucinda Williams, Norah Jones, Dwight Yoakam, John Doe, Steve Earle, Jim Lauderdale, Kathleen Edwards, Jay Farrar, Jim James, Raul Malo, Susan Marshall, and the Sin City All Stars. The concert produced a DVD and 100% of the concerts was donated through the Gram Parsons Foundation to the Musician's Assistance Program (now MusiCares), which aids musicians in crisis. Despite his influence, Parsons has yet to be inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame. The Gram Parsons Petition Project (later named Gram Parsons InterNational) was begun in May 2008 in support of a drive to induct Parsons into the Country Music Hall of Fame. On September 19, 2008, the 35th anniversary of Parsons' death, it was presented to the Country Music Association (CMA) with the official Nomination Proposal. Parsons was inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2026 through the influence category. In November 2009, the musical theatre production Grievous Angel: The Legend of Gram Parsons premiered, starring Anders Drerup as Gram Parsons and Kelly Prescott as Emmylou Harris.
Kwashiorkor is a severe form of malnutrition associated with a low-protein diet. The extreme lack of protein causes an osmotic imbalance in the gastrointestinal system causing swelling of the gut diagnosed as an edema or retention of water. Extreme fluid retention observed in individuals suffering from kwashiorkor is accompanied by irregularities in the lymphatic system as well as disruptions of capillary exchange. The lymphatic system serves three major purposes: fluid recovery, immunity, and lipid absorption. Victims of kwashiorkor commonly exhibit reduced ability to recover fluids, immune system failure, and low lipid absorption. Fluid recovery by the lymphatic system is accomplished by the re-vascularization of fluid and macromolecules from the interstitial space, allowing these constituents of whole blood to be returned to the venous circulation. Compromised fluid recovery may contribute to the phenomenon of extravascular fluid accumulation in kwashiorkor. The low protein theory for the pathogenesis of kwashiorkor has been used to teach that capillary exchange between the lymphatic system and circulating blood is impaired by a reduced oncotic (i.e. colloid osmotic pressure, COP) in the blood, as a consequence of inadequate protein intake, so that the hydrostatic pressure gradient, which favors extravasation of fluid from small vessels, is not overcome. Proteins, mainly albumin, are responsible for creating the COP observed in the blood and tissue fluids.

Mahathir visited South Africa three times during his tenure as prime minister: a private visit in April 1994 to congratulate Mandela, an official visit in August 1995, and another in May 1997 when he received the Order of Good Hope. On 27 August 2013, the Mahathir Global Peace Foundation honoured Mandela with the Mahathir Award for Global Peace. In the same year as Mandela's passing, Mahathir expressed his deep sorrow, calling Mandela a great leader who dedicated his life to social justice. He admired Mandela's magnanimity, noting that despite years of imprisonment, he focused on reconciliation and sharing opportunities between blacks and whites. Mahathir also paid his last respects to Mandela in Pretoria, where he attended as a personal representative of Malaysia.
==== Blue Dream ==== Blue Dream is a hybrid cannabis strain widely used for both medical and recreational purposes, developed in 2003 through mixing Sativa and Indica strains named Blueberry and Haze. Believed to have originated in California, the plants will typically grow within 9-10 weeks, with moderate to high yields.
== Structure == LRP5 is a transmembrane low-density lipoprotein receptor that shares a similar structure with LRP6. In each protein, about 85% of its 1600-amino-acid length is extracellular. Each has four β-propeller motifs at the amino terminal end that alternate with four epidermal growth factor (EGF)-like repeats. Most extracellular ligands bind to LRP5 and LRP6 at the β-propellers. Each protein has a single-pass, 22-amino-acid segment that crosses the cell membrane and a 207-amino-acid segment that is internal to the cell.
The death of Yazid in 683 led to a major leadership crisis in the caliphate, and "the power of his house seemed to collapse everywhere", in the words of Orientalist Julius Wellhausen. Ubayd Allah initially neglected to support Yazid's son and designated successor, Mu'awiya II and secured oaths of allegiance to himself from the Basran Arab nobility. In a speech addressed to them, he emphasized his connection to Basra and promised to maintain the wealth of the city's inhabitants. Nonetheless, the Basrans turned against him, forcing him to abandon his palace. He was replaced by Abd Allah ibn al-Harith, a member of the Banu Hashim. Ubayd Allah took refuge with the Azdi chieftain Mas'ud ibn Amr in late 683 or early 684. He plotted to restore his governorship by encouraging Mas'ud to form an alliance of the Yamani and Rabi'a tribes against his opponents from the Banu Tamim and Ibn al-Harith. Mas'ud took to the pulpit of Basra's mosque to stir up the revolt, but Tamimi tribesmen under Ibn al-Harith and their asawira allies under Mah-Afridhun, stormed the building and killed Mas'ud. After Mas'ud's death, Ubayd Allah fled the city practically alone in March 684, taking the Syrian desert route to Hawran or Palmyra. In his rush to escape, he left his wife and family behind. When Ubayd Allah arrived in Syria, he found it in political disarray; Caliph Mu'awiya II had died weeks into his rule and a power vacuum ensued with many Syrian noblemen, particularly from the Qaysi tribes, switching allegiance to the rival, Mecca-based caliphate of Abd Allah ibn al-Zubayr.

There is still much ongoing differential (DNA sequence based) comparison research that is trying to separate out the simplest forms of chordates. As some lineages that lack a backbone or notochord might have lost these structures over time, this complicates the classification of chordates. Some chordate lineages may only be identified by DNA analysis as there is no physical trace of any chordate-like structures. Attempts to work out the evolutionary relationships of the chordates have produced several hypotheses. The current consensus is that chordates are monophyletic (meaning, all chordates are descend from a single, common ancestor, which can be considered a chordate) and that the vertebrates' nearest relatives are tunicates. In 2016, identification of two conserved signature indels (CSIs) in the proteins cyclophilin-like protein and mitochondrial inner membrane protease ATP23, which are exclusively shared by all vertebrates, tunicates and cephalochordates also provided strong evidence of the monophyly of Chordata. All of the earliest chordate fossils have been found in the Early Cambrian Chengjiang fauna, and include three species that are regarded as fish, and hence vertebrates. Because the fossil record of early chordates is poor, only molecular phylogenetics offers a reasonable prospect of dating their emergence. However, the use of molecular phylogenetics for dating evolutionary transitions is controversial. It has proven difficult to produce a detailed classification within the living chordates.
=== Bone Marrow === Bone marrow can be used for testing but that depends on the quality and availability of the bones. So far there is no proof that says that certain bones are better than others when it comes to testing. Extracting bone marrow from larger bones is easier than smaller bones. Forensic toxicologists often use bone marrow to find what type poisons used, which can include cocaine or ethanol. Ethanol specifically is one of the most abused drugs worldwide, be it through alcohol consumption and abuse being a leading cause in death. Suicides, car crashes, and a variety of crimes are often performed under severe alcohol influence. The process of ethanol determination allows forensic toxicologists to utilize bone marrow post-mortem and isolate the ethanol level a person had been, and the metabolic speed of breakdown at which can be traced back to time of death.
